Bio

Djahari Clark, Director of Desert Sin, grew up in and around Los Angeles, and currently resides in New York. She believes in the art of storytelling as a life-affirming art form that can be used to inspire, educate, or simply remind us of the beauty in our shared humanity.
Djahari has been studying and working in theatre, film, and dance for over 20 years. Her career has been both on the stage as a performer as well as behind the scenes in various roles including producer, director, designer, and manager with such companies as Desert Sin, Xanadu Repertory, Thousand Oaks Children’s Theater, Fox Broadcasting Company, and Burning Galileo Productions.
Her tutelage includes the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, UCLA’s Theatre Film & Television (where she received her BA), as well as a handful of community organizations. Djahari has studied several dance forms including Modern, West African, Bellydance, and Persian-Ballet. Over 10 years ago she began studying with Mr. Abdollah Nazemi, and remains a principle dancer within his company, the Pars National Ballet Company (www.nazemiparsart.com). Djahari has been performing in Amara’s “An Evening of Experimental Middle Eastern Dance” since its inception in 2000, and with Amara and Anaheed has also developed the experimental theatre/dance workshop series XMED (www.eemed.com/xmed).
Djahari founded Desert Sin in 1999 as a personal synthesis of her diverse artistic background and desire for artistic collaboration. Through Desert Sin she has produced two successful productions including “Musée des Femmes” and “Sita’s Fire”, and has several more in development. Currently residing in New York, Djahari is work-shopping her latest production, {working title} “Twitchers”, while continuing to tour internationally.
